In an exciting development for the Black Angels, Gerrard Newby an exciting American Import has signed with the club for the 2020 season.

Gerrard has previously played for the Keysborough Cougars in 2018 and before that for the Union College Bulldogs in Lexington, Kentucky through a decorated college career.

Gerrad is a 196cm (6-5) guard/forward combo player is strong at both ends of the floor. In his last college season Gerrard average 20.4 points per game, 9.7 rebounds.

In his previous season in Australia he averaged 19.58ppg and 10.4rpg in the same division the Black Angels are currently in. In his second-last game in Australia, Gerrad tore up the highly regarded Shepparton Gators scoring 44 points in a playoff game at Shepparton’s home court.

Gerrard is being brought in to bolster a talented and exciting squad that is at the same time both young and inexperienced. Men’s coach Bob Mann wanted Gerrad from the outset since being appointed as the Black Angels Head Coach. Gerrard is a rare individual in that he brings quality as an individual to both to our on the court and off the court needs. As much as I wanted a quality player, with such a young squad I also wanted a quality individual and having watched him closely when I was at Keysborough I was pretty keen to get him across. Gerrard is not only a talented player he is a highly intelligent young man who has graduated with a degree in IT and is well regarded by everybody he meets. He will not only improve our capability on the court he will help build a quality culture within the program. I couldn’t be happier that we have signed him for the 2020 season.”
